Modeling of ‎I‎nfinite Divisible Distributions Using Invariant and Equivariant Functions

‎Basu’s theorem is one of the most elegant results of classical statistics‎. ‎Succinctly put‎, ‎the theorem says‎: ‎if T is a complete sufficient statistic for a family of probability measures‎, ‎and V is an ancillary statistic‎, ‎then T and V are independent‎. ‎A very novel application of Basu’s theorem appears recently in proving the infinite divisibility of certain statistics‎. ‎In addition ...

Equivariant Weierstrass Preparation and Values of L - functions at Negative Integers

We apply an equivariant version of the p-adic Weierstrass Preparation Theorem in the context of possible non-commutative generalizations of the power series of Deligne and Ribet. We then consider CM abelian extensions of totally real fields and by combining our earlier considerations with the known validity of the Main Conjecture of Iwasawa theory we prove, modulo the conjectural vanishing of c...

Pattern Equivariant Functions and Cohomology

The cohomology of a tiling or a point pattern has originally been defined via the construction of the hull or the groupoid associated with the tiling or the pattern. Here we present a construction which is more direct and therefore easier accessible. It is based on generalizing the notion of equivariance from lattices to point patterns of finite local complexity.

Applications of Degree for S1-equivariant Gradient Maps to Variational Nonlinear Problems with S1-symmetries S

There are developed many topological methods which are powerful tools in the theory of critical points of functionals; see for example [2], [3], [5], [6], [9], [13]–[20], [22]–[25], [27]–[29], [32], [33], [43]–[45], [47], [48], [51], [59]. It happens quite often that functionals whose critical points are important in the theory of differential equations are invariant under an action of a compac...

Orbit Equivalence of Global Attractors for S1-Equivariant Parabolic Equations

We consider the global attractor Af for the semiflow generated by a scalar semilinear parabolic equation of the form ut = uxx + f(u, ux), defined on the circle, x ∈ S. Using a characterization of the period maps for planar Hamiltonian systems of the form u′′ + g(u) = 0 we discuss questions related to the topological equivalence between global attractors.
